Women’s Wellbeing

Women’s wellbeing should be at the centre of any community or corporate initiative. Empowering and equipping women is empowering and equipping the family and community. Tshela Healthcare prioritises several initiatives that focuses on women’s preventative health and wellbeing.

Maternity Programmes

Currently, Tshela Healthcare runs a national Maternity Programme six days a week by an experienced and passionate team of administrators and healthcare practitioners who are registered nursing sisters specialising in midwifery.

The Programme aims to equip mothers-to-be throughout their journey, providing these moms with supportive telecare and informative correspondence to ensure that the journey to motherhood is safe for mom and baby.

The supportive care is to help the expectant mother make informed choices and take better care of themselves during this time. If the expectant mother has pregnancy-associated risks, the Maternity Programme will support them in managing these risks and reducing any possible complications.

Logistically, the team co-ordinates the safe and timeous delivery of a maternity gift bag to the expectant mothers preferred delivery address before the birth of their baby.

Women’s Health

Tshela Healthcare has completed several projects that have prioritised women’s health:

  • Advocacy workshops, health counselling, mass screenings for lifestyle diseases (diabetes, hypertension, obesity and cholesterol). HIV tests, breast screening, dental screening and extractions, eye test with provision of spectacles and cervical screening. Through our cervical screenings, we have managed to identify women with diagnosed overt cervical cancer and cervical pre-cancerous lesions. These women would not have known about their status if not screened. Now, they can receive the treatment and care needed for their diagnosis.
  • Tshela Healthcare has supported reproductive health among teen women and donated and distributed menstrual cups to Grade 7 learners.
  • Reproductive health projects. Empowering learners (Grade 7, 8 and 9) on reproductive health and sexually transmitted diseases. As a result of this project, it had a seen a significant decline in teenage pregnancy in the area where the workshops were implemented.
